In the 1930's, there was a mere 5,336 year-round residents along with
8,000 seasonal people who flocked to the newly emerging hotspot
called Palm Springs for a little fun in some of the local nightclubs
and restaurants. Hollywood's film colony and tourists from
around the country discovered Palm Springs as a very attractive
desert playground. Palm Springs was indeed a glamorous place
to mingle, whether in the Chi Chi Club boasting nationally known
performers, or Trav Rogers' Western nightspot called "The Mink and
Manure Club."
Palm Springs' popularity lives on today, with 28 of the country's most wealthy people, according to the Forbes 400 list, who enjoy homes in the valley. More than 42,000 people have taken up residence in the sunny desert city, and numbers are increasing each year.
Creative Communities, LLC is celebrating the rich history of Palm Springs with its new project called Pintura-Spanish for painting and it truly is a work of art-located near the base of the San Jacinto Mountains in Palm Springs. Creative Communities, LLC is using classic 1920's Hollywood Spanish architecture in a villa design that successfully merges indoor and outdoor spaces into one artistically composed environment. Homes within Pintura were designed for entertaining, capturing that vintage movie star style that transformed Palm Springs into an international resort destination.
Pintura consists of 63 homes within a gated community affording homeowners the privacy they desire in a community. Pintura offers a limited collection of one-story homes with a second story element, as well as two-story homes. There are three distinct floor plan designs to choose from, ranging in square footage from 1,622 to 2,333 square feet of living space. Spacious and private courtyards, second-floor balconies and pool-sized backyards are a few of the elements that create an oasis for relaxing, entertaining and enjoying the mountain views.
Although Pintura may sound like a common product being built throughout California, it is actually quite unique for Palm Springs. In fact, a high-density, detached master-planned community has never been built in Palm Springs.
According to Dawson Hannouche Partners, architect of record on the Pintura project, Pintura was not only unanimously passed through city council, but city council members actually thanked Creative Communities, LLC and Dawson Hannouche Partners for planning such an outstanding community for their city.
If the city council had any doubts that Pintura's 1920's style
romantic village theme would be realized, they are no longer speculating.
As the community takes shape, the 1920's feel is emerging.
Samir Hannouche, principal in charge of Design at Dawson
Hannouche Partners, has replicated the 20's Spanish Colonial compounds
through nostalgic elements, such as wrought iron decoration, recessed
and sloping windows, the use of Spanish tile around doors, clay
tile roofs and stone pavers throughout the community.
The village look and feel is especially obvious in the layout of the homes. In several cases, homes are situated around a European style motor court.
The Dali and El Greco plans at Pintura have courtyards that are entered through wrought iron gates. The courtyard is accessed by a series of French doors. These floor plans also feature a second story casita with a veranda. This upstairs bonus room has its own entry from the courtyard and serves as an ideal guest suite or additional master suite.
"Pintura will be the kind of project that will get people out of their houses and inspire them to wander around the community," said Brian Dawson, principal of Dawson Hannouche Partners.
The Palm Springs Community
Although the Pintura community exists behind elegant wrought-iron
gates for privacy and security, homeowners have quick and easy access
to the world-class restaurants, shopping and galleries that comprise
Palm Springs.
Building on its celebrated history as the original Southern California hideaway-a place that drew movie stars and presidents alike-Palm Springs is enjoying a well-deserved resurgence these days. The downtown shopping area has been revitalized to include more outdoor dining and wide paseos ideal for sidewalk events. Amid a casual, yet elegant atmosphere, one will discover many of the world's finest restaurants, great entertainment, trendy clubs and gathering centers.
For those individuals who can't get enough outdoor recreation, there are more than 100 golf courses, 600 tennis courts and 35,000 swimming pools that dot the Palm Springs landscape, providing abundant recreational opportunities. Additionally, the area plays host to some of the biggest events in professional golf and tennis.
In less than 15 minutes, you can rise from the desert floor to the breathtaking 8,000 foot height of the San Jacinto Mountains via the Palm Springs Arial Tramway. Desert Adventures offers guided jeep tours of Palm Canyons, and Agua Caliente Indian Canyons is a beautiful spot for hiking, cycling and horseback riding.
